A virtual world to be set up in China could provide for as many as 10,000 jobs, its backers have predicted.

Sweden-based Entropia Universe has been chosen to create a cash-based virtual economy for China in collaboration with Chinese online entertainment company Cyber Recreation Development (CRD).

CRD is supported by the Beijing Municipal People's Government, and Entropia Universe--managed by Swedish company Mindark--predicts it will generate more than US$1 billion annually from the partnership with CRD.

An estimated 10,000 jobs will be created in China on the back of this deal, with staff working from home inside the Entropia Universe.

He added that many South Korean telecom companies are now buying up content producers, game developers and animation houses.

Today, KIICA is looking to set up a number of centers for animation software training in the region. The first one will be in Singapore and a further one will be in Thailand or Vietnam.

"The animation market is still growing and Korean companies are looking at lowering their production costs. But before we can outsource, we need to upskill; to teach animation and game development," Lee explained.

Thailand still has a rule for registration of online games, introduced in July 2003 in the wake of public backlash against youngsters Ragnarok addiction, but it is today loosely enforced, if at all, for new online games.

Brazil purchased the mall on June 5th. The mall's founders and former owners, who did not wish to sell the structure to any party wanting to tear it down, retired from the business due to commitments in real life. The mall is said to have been built in June 2006.

"I plan at one time to expand to the whole sim including the beach," says Brazil.

And the mall's new owner is already working hard at the business to achieve this goal. Currently offering vendors 2 weeks free with the payment of 2 weeks rent, Brazil hopes to continue bringing in the highest-quality Second Life products to attract qualified SL customers.

The development is currently situated on over 12,000 square meters of mainland.

In addition to great deals and lively conversation, the French Quarter's grand opening this Saturday will include giveaways, prizes, and a live DJ. The festivities will take place between the hours of Noon and 8pm SLT/PST, although early or late visits are welcome.

To visit French Quarter mall today, teleport to: Bennafield 132, 134, 52.

For information on vendor space, please IM Brazil Ashton in-world.

ImageIt also reminds me of this destination in Second Life called Virtual Hallucinations, created by schizophrenia researchers at UC Davis. Your avatar walks puts on a badge, you walk in, and you get to experience what it feels like to be schizophrenic—the walls start telling you to kill yourself, your face gets deformed in the mirror, and you see things everywhere you turn. Same white walls and random installations.
