An Editorial

A recent post on a random blog started me thinking on the subject of class. No, I'm not talking about socioeconomic status or any sort of caste system, I'm talking about the personal attribute that I'm proud to say many of you boast, and am ashamed to say that some people do not.

As I use the word here, as defined by Oxford American:

class |klas|
adjective [ attrib. ] informal
showing stylish excellence : he's a class player

Second Life is not my first ball game in the realm of social media, or interactive communications. Many of you know that in the AOL heyday I was known as Host PCCL Camel, Host LFST Camel, and Host News Camel... a community leader under the watchful guidance of America Online Communities Incorporated (ACI). I have also served in the past as forum and chat moderator, and editor, for various other online communities.

It's through my experience working on the Internet that I have learned one thing: there's no better place to judge exactly how much "class" someone has than right here on the Internet. Here's why...

Xavier Mohr, SL Reports, Arbitrage Wise, JT Financial, SL Capital Exchange, Second Life, Second Chaos, Guardian MarketIf you are not yet aware, I have resigned as CEO of SL Reports effective January 1, 2008. No, I have not had a "falling-out" with management or anything scrumptious like that for you to eat up, it's just that my time here has come and passed, and I am man enough to know when to step back and let someone else take over.

There are a lot of reasons for this - none of them just massive. You can read about it in the full letter. More than anything though, it was just several smaller reasons that all "piled up" to make me think that this was the right thing to do at this time.

A lot of it comes down to time, and scheduling. I'm not the carefree single guy I once was. There are a lot of things that I should be doing in RL, but have put off time and again for the sake of SLR.

An Editorial

I try not to editorialize the financial news side of Second Life in regard to specific companies or exchanges This time is different. If you like, please consider this opinion... but everything in it is sheer fact.

On September 26, 2007, Robo Marx commented at the SL Capital Exchange, at Your2ndPlace.com, and here at SLReports.net, saying in no uncertain language: "Investors do yourself a favor and sell all the stock and get your money out of these exchanges."

Imagine my surprise when I went to the Ancapistan Capital Exchange homepage this morning and found the following announcement from IntLibber Brautigan:

Today, 00:05 system announcement
by IntLibber Brautigan
BDVR - Blue Diamond Virtual REIT Approved For IPO

My Questions to You: Real-life standards for SL exchanges

An Editorial

I have officially stepped away from the work side of SLR for a few days. I am not going to be logging into Gmail or Second Life, really, until probably the weekend.

Having read all the comments on all these stories, though, I have decided to ask our readers a couple questions. Now, take this as what it is: an editorial from a Second Life CEO that has been around the SL finance community for a while. But also take this as a bit of insight from a former official for the SL Capital Exchange... that still does work from time to time verifying IDs.

I'm asking your opinion on this, so please comment. Do you think SL exchanges changed the rules mid-game for existing CEOs? Do you think there is a double standard in the implementation of real-life standards by Second Life exchanges?

Xavier Mohr Tim Locklear SL Reports SL Capital Exchange AnCapEx ACE IntLibber Arbitrage Oklahoma Texas OpinionsBy Xavier Mohr, CEO

Well, with all the drama involving Midas Bank and other publicly-listed companies here lately, I thought it would be nice to use a bit of my free real-life time to write about something more lighthearted.

Don't ask me how I ended up at IntLibber Brautigan's virtual bachelor party last night. I had not been in Second Life for almost a week, and logged in pretty much to clear my messages... deciding to stay out of boredom.

As I downed another whiskey sour, though, I started thinking about IntLibber Brautigan. Of course, Int and I have had the pleasure of sharing in a few of the same high-profile crises – the Sal Ackland / Investor Allen accusations, the delisting of Brautigan & Tuck Holdings not too long ago, the teenage-run SmartVest Bank scandal, and just yesterday we found ourselves at the same bank collapse party.

ImageFor the past couple weeks, I've been working pretty steadily, behind the scenes, on this site and on the new MetaSnort site that is brought to you by SL Reports. Most of my focus, lately, has been making this site easier to navigate. I took a step back and looked at the different categories and sections and realized that they could probably be pretty confusing to anybody that's not familiar with them. The results of the new organization of sections can be seen on the new Sitemap page. With that new page, it will also be easier to find the content that you're interested in.

I think that the categories and sections make a lot more sense the way they are, now. Let me know if you have any suggestions or if you have ideas about sections that we might want to add. We will add more sections as we get articles covering other topics, of course.

I'm also working on adding RSS feeds for each of the categories. There are some people who would only like to be subscribed to certain topics, and not have to get it all in one feed. Right now, we're testing if these individual feeds will work the way we expect them to. This category (Strange's Blog), Xavier's, and Arbitrage's blog are the only three "individual feeds that we'll add, for right now. If everything goes the way we plan, we'll roll out the feeds for all of the other categories. The individual feeds will also be useful, so that you can get some of the items that aren't normally published on the front page of the site, like Press Releases.

For the next couple weeks, we'll be going through a hiring phase. At this time, there's a few people that are interested in writing on a freelance basis, and well as full-time. Send me an email (by using the form on the contact page ) if you're interested in writing for SL Reports, and I'll send you more information about it.
