A blog by Arbitrage Wise:

I recently discussed our bank run and issues with my friends and brother, and they pointed me to a few YouTube videos that, while it has little resemblance of our current situation, really opened my eyes to the business of banking, and what’s really been going on around us.  If you have not done so, feel free to view the videos here:

Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 , Part 4 , & Part 5

I’m not suggesting what the videos say are true, but I do feel that we should all wake up, and liberate our minds from the conundrum that we’re all in.  After watching the videos (and a few Michael Moore documentary including Sicko), I just didn’t know what to think, except one thing – money and greed will corrupt anyone, and I will make certain that I do not fall victim to it.  I have always grown up wanting to do business, and becoming rich.  But if this is the result of becoming rich, then I really need to reconsider my goals in life.  There are just more important things out there then money, power, and materialism.  At then end of the day, I can sleep better with my loved ones knowing that I have helped made someone’s life better, then I would knowing what kind of car is parked in my garage.

These ideas have been plaguing me for the last two weeks, and my apathy for the government and politicians sunk to an all time low.  Compound it with our Second Life problems, it was difficult for me to wake up and be motivated to do anything.  What’s the point of doing anything?  What is there to look forward to seeing the ‘Brave New World’ that we’re now entering where our freedom and liberty is being stripped away right in front of our own eyes?  How can we look our [future] kids in the eye and tell them everything will be OK when we know that it was us, our generation, who failed them?

Fortunately, I was able to find some hope for us all in Ron Paul.  If you’re wondering who he is, then you’ve been living in a cave like me – a cave where I was fed information only from what I see on TV.  I would do him injustice to tell you about him, so I’ll just provide some videos that I saw last night on YouTube about him, and for once, it brought tears to my eyes seeing that there is some hope after all.

Part 1 , Part 2, Part 3 , & Part 4

I watch CNBC and the news all day – I see what’s going on more than most people, and I see what’s going on with our economy and what our government is doing.  I’m not telling you this so that you’ll vote for Ron Paul, nor am I trying to be a conspiracy theorist.  I’m just sharing with you my feelings, and helping to liberate your mind so that you can do your own free thinking.  I can tell you one thing –2008 will be the first year that I have ever gone out to vote in my life.

Surprise surprise, heres something Arb and I both agree on. Ron Paul is the best man to be President of the US for many different reasons.

It is also clear the media is trying its best to shut him out. He's raised more money than any other republican candidate, is a 10 term US congressman with a solid record of voting against taxes, spending, and gun control, he's much more reliable on just about any issue than any other candidate. Yet the press tries its best to ignore him, and they reiterate the big lie that he's "a long shot with no chance of winning", hoping people will believe it.

For instance, this past week Ron Paul took 2nd in the Nevada caucuses, but who knew that? Most (not all) headlines across the country typically read: "Romney takes 1st, McCain takes 3rd" with no mention of the second place winner. Obvious blacklisting. FOX News kept him out of their debate in NH entirely, even tho Giuliani and Thompson polled lower than Paul, they did invite those two.

Every voter should be incensed at how blatantly the corporate media is manipulating this election. I hope incensed enough to go out and vote, whoever you wind up wanting to vote for. And dont think voting for someone you dont think is going to win is "wasting" your vote. You can of course vote the "lesser evil" strategy, but in any event, if you cant think of voting for someone, think about who you want to vote against. The only wasted vote is one never cast.

Moreover, if you dont vote, you can't complain about the winner. "For evil to prosper only requires that good men do nothing" someone said once. That applies to voting or not voting as well.

I have to whole-heartedly agree with IntLibber, and am glad that we can set aside our minuscule differences for something more important... our First Life.

Can I ask if LL actually bothered to give the banks advanced warning before SL residents, that this was going to happen? If they did, just how much advanced warning?

Its my oppinnion that LL just cant be bothered to do their job and deal with support tickets submitted by SL residents. Im sure those of us who have tried to submit tickets and had to wait weeks and weeks for a responce, that generally says they cannot help you, can understand where I am coming from.

However, back to my initial point as I am not here to ramble. It appears to me that LL should have foreseen the events there doomsday notices would cause and given the SL banks alot more advanced warning then they did (if any) so that the banks could get their assets into order and have a much better chance at surviving the oncoming storm.

These events just go to show what the lindens think of the residents who pay their subscriptions and invest a great deal of time and money into SL. It shows that LL just want an easy life and not to have to deal with us, the people who pay their wages month in month out! Its high time LL started thinking more about the consequences of its actions and ways to limit the damage they cause, rather then blundering in and leaving us to pick up the pieces.

Arbitrage,

As a customer of your bank, I wanted you to know that I think your financial representatives that work at your bank are worthless. When I ask a simple question I get snotty remarks about how they will not bother with me unless I kiss their ass first. Here is my suggestion to you; if you are paying them money to work for you, maybe fire them all and put that money in the ATM so I can get my money out. You asked your customers to be patient and I have been. I did not realize that required me to protrate myself before your bankers too.

Sam - point them out here and we'll reprimand them accordingly, as well as let them know that their actions can be made public if they do not treat our customers properly.
Karen Palen - Conspiricy theories abound!   | 2008-02-06 21:29:41
It is truly amazing what selective interpretation of history can do for conspiracy theories!

As a high ranking CIA official told me when I asked about 20 years ago concerning yet another incident: "I only wish we WERE that good. Then we could just bamboozle the other guys (soviets in those days) to jump into the sea and save us all this work!"

Sigh.
