Real Life Charity Providing School Supplies for Disadvantaged Children
Committed to Raising Funds Through Second Life

Royal Oak, MI - Operation: Kid Equip , a Congressional District program (OKE), plans an extensive celebration in Second Life (SL) on Wednesday, May 21, 2008.  The days events, beginning at 1:00 PM SLT and ending at 11:00 PM SLT includes sim tours, free balloon rides, a party featuring SL VIPs who support OKE, a formal Grand Opening ceremony, a live party with a DJ and post-celebration event with an M&M theme.

Recently established as a "real life" charity, within both RL and the SL platform, the OKE mission is to, "provide economically disadvantaged children with the basic educational supplies needed to be successful in school."  OKE supplies pencils, pens, paper, crayons, markers, etc., to those children and families who might not otherwise be able to afford them."

Menachem Kniespeck (SL Name: Alligator Wingtips), Co-Founder & CEO of OKE Management Group states, "Our goal for 2008 is to equip 1,000 children through our Second Life efforts.  Any amount donated will help us reach our goal. Every Linden dollar donated in Second Life does count and will be converted to US dollars." Kniespeck continued, "Given the economic situations in the areas we serve, it was important for the OKE Management Group to bring Operation: Kid Equip into Second Life to help diversify its donor and supporter base; to bring awareness to the issues schoolchildren are experiencing; and, to create awareness of OKE's efforts."

Scheduled events for the Grand Opening of the Chesed sim include: 1:00 to 3:00 PM SLT, OKE will host tours, free air ballon rides and the opportunity to preview rental property on sim; 3:00 PM SLT, OKE's top vendors, supporters and donors will be recognized; 4:00 PM SLT the Grand Opening main event will be held at the Pavilion; 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM SLT, a Live Party featuring Liquid NRG will be held at the Pavilion and Club Cadence, which is OKE's dance club established as a fund-raising venue on the sim; and the day's events will close with an "M&M" themed Post Party from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM SLT. Opportunities to donate to OKE will be possible through donation boxes located on the sim

"For only $3,895 Linden dollars, or $15.00 US, we are able to supply one child while helping children and their families defray educational supply expenses," stated Mike McFall (SL Name: Maybee Fall), Co-Founder & Co-Executive of OKE Management Group.

The new OKE sim features a large open area with a stage and park to host fundraising events; a vintage one-room schoolhouse style information center as a symbol of OKE's mission; elegant commercial and water view residential rental property to support tier payments; and Club Cadence, a dance club open to the public 24/7 featuring themed events and DJs.  OKE Management Group offices are located in the sky above the sim.

Spiegel Development designed and built the sim with a team that included avatars Abel Dreamscape, Suku Ming, Toby Rainbow, Sha Faulkes, as well as products from LL Prefabs and Houses. According to avatar Stacy Spiegel, "Members of our team donated time and materials, or performed work at reduced rates, so the OKE sim build could be completed as inexpensively as possible for this wonderful organization."

to promote a club and a charity which has managed to ignore the people who've done the most to promote it in favor of giving credit to those who have done the least to keep it going.

perhaps if you tried working with people instead of alienating them.you'd be more successful.

Alienating those who worked? What about those who have given?

I thought the top donors were supposed to be honored, yet some were missing. Why were they ignored? Is there a scam here we don't know about?

Why do griefers always try to ruin everything for everyone. This is a GREAT CAUSE, and people like the both of you are just sad.
Saddened - Is it a good cause?   | 2008-06-06 07:46:03
Happy,

I have to question how this is griefing? When did stating an opinion become griefing?

There are many who have been burned by the so-called caring founders of OKE.

If the charity is a scam, it's not griefing to call them out. If it's not a scam, good for them. But, there is something fishy about the way they do business.

So, Happy, calling people sad for having opinion is actually sadder.

To the two original posters, we all might not agree with everything you said, but you do have a right to say it.
