SECOND LIFE, Jun 29 – The search for missing children has been extended also to the virtual world of Second Life. There are several posters spread around the virtual world, trying to contribute for the missing children search success. Mupies spread around the streets, spinner cubes with different sizes, even posters carried by avatars showing them in different places, are the strategies used.

ImageBoys, you can pull your sewing machines and needlepoint out of the back of the closet because it's now OK for you to bring out your Gaultier. Members of the opposite sex (to me) are getting creative when it comes to clothing in video games. Men are sometimes spending days on their characters to make them look perfect in games such as WWE Smackdown vs. Raw, Tony Hawk, and Second Life. Heck, in Def Jam, if you need the right threads to get style points.

Second Fest: Glastonbury without mud (News, PC Advisor)

ImageWell actually there was virtual mud (and portable toilets). But there was no booze, live bands or - I reckon - fun. Second Life and The Guardian this weekend enjoyed their very own music festival. The virtual 'Second Fest'.

Now it's entirely possible that I'm missing the point, getting old or both, but I can't help but ask... why? Surely the point of music festivals is the very physical proximity of friends (and the consumption of insane amounts of things that are bad for you).

And live music itself is only worth the effort because it is performed by, er, real live people in the company of real live other people. (I thought watching the Glastonbury festival on TV was pretty pointless, but I'd draw the line at using an avatar to pretend I was there.)

I've avoided writing about Secondfest, last weekend's 3-day music festival in virtual world Second Life, here on the gamesblog because I knew the reaction of this community would be negative. However, that's where I've been for the past week. So if you are interested in this ground-breaking event, where over 30 bands performed to over 15,000 people, you can read what I wrote about it on the Music Blog. You can also see photos on MySpace and check out the iterant life-blogging on Twitter.

Hearty congratulations to everyone who took part, including The Guardian, Intel, Rivers Run Red and in-world music promoter Slim Warrior. The virtual site was jam-packed for the three days (I missed Pet Shop Boys because the servers were too full), and apart from the anticipated difficulties with the technological limitations of the application, the whole thing was a great success.
