On 19 July at 7pm SLT, The Contempo Institute will open as a new venue for the arts. Their opening exhibit, The Body Graffik, showcases 2D works by four artists working with the human form. These works present figures in hyperreal or surreal environments, and use digital compositing tools and collage to push the limits of photography and painting. Works displayed by Static Schultz and Ubix Voom are displayed in Gallery 1, and the works by Marisela Bouchard and Fau Ferdinand in Gallery 2.

The gallery's current artist-in-residence is Juria Yoshikawa, whose reprised version of 3:4 (part of his recent exhibit at the White Cube gallery) is currently installed in the Contempo's courtyard. Also on display are two works by Austrailian artist Reni Voom ˆ Metal Sea and the touchable Autumn.

The Contempo Institute aims to be a different kind of arts space. Run as a non-profit gallery, they provide a few select artists with space and materials to create as part of a two month residency program. They also also have a café and will be opening a theatre in the near future. Created by a generous land endowment of over 3000 sqm from industrialist Chase Rutherford, it was built by artist Ubix Voom.
