ViBe Chinese Theater Rolls Out The Red Carpet For The Premier of a New Second Life Series

On February 3rd, 2008, the cast of the SL series 'The Nine Deaths of Alex Black' will be walking down the red carpet to view the first episode of the series!

On Sunday, at approximately 1:30pm (SL time), Noelani Mahana will be unveiling the first episode of her new series, 'The Nine Deaths of Alex Black" The feature was created almost entirely by Noelani and filmed in Second Life; the cast consists of an estimated fifteen different SL users, each one playing their own unique role in the film.
'The Nine Deaths of Alex Black' is a Second Life series following a post-apocalyptic female mercenary named Alex Black, who has supernatural abilities and fights futuristic rogue serial killers, thugs and assassins.
Noelani Mahana, as well as her dedicated cast, have all been working very hard to put this all together and are very proud to be viewing the first episode they have made. "I'm excited beyond any words! I can't wait to see Noelani's work on the big screen. I'm so glad we're going to be the first ones to see this awesome piece of work. I know the cast worked just as hard devoting their time to getting this all together so, seeing it all in one piece is going to be just amazing." Says one Gia Isbell, a member of the cast in this new series.
The event will begin at 1:00pm (SL time) where the arriving cast will be making their way down the red carpet at ViBe Chinese Theater in the Shaea sim, each one dressed in style. The public is invited to meet and greet, the cast and crew, as well as get autographs and photos. A limited number of invitations will also be extended to certain members of the press and other selected guests to view the premier.  Noelani will be saying a few words to the cast and guests before the film begins and will be followed shortly after by a premier party, where the event ends around 4:00pm
When asked about the upcoming premier, Noelani replied, "I'm looking forward to viewing the first episode with everyone that worked hard to help me create it like the cast and people who contributed their time and skill to build sets, make scripts ect." She continued on to confess,  "I'm also a little nervous because I've never done anything like this before. In the end it's all in fun!"

Artists showcase work in Second Life

Second Life has become a growing source for artists to showcase their creations.  Artists are able to enter in-world and start galleries or become involved with others from all around the world; Second Life allows an artist’s work to be sold and enjoyed by many citizens in-world.

GM Nikolaidis, a real life and in-world artist, is looking forward to an opportunity to host other Second Life artists in his gallery, opening on December 1, 2007, at the Enchantment Art Center; he and Jezebel Bailey, artist and clothing designer, both own the center, and will be hosting artists Kade Klata and Syene Cela when the center opens.

Nikolaidis has difficulty labeling his art but would consider it “architectural.”  (Among his work is a photograph he took of the Kymulga Grist Mill, a historical mill built by Confederate Army Captain Forney, on Talladega Creek, Alabama, USA.)  In Second Life his artwork is able to surround him, and even more so with his in-world sculptures inspired by real life.  He feels people seem to gravitate toward what they know, and finds his real life photography is valued more than his in-world work.  “(I) recently began shooting in-world, but (I) have not found that audience,” he explains.

Jezebel Bailey believes in-world creations can be anything you can imagine.  “The skies the limit,” she quotes in-world friends involved in the musical arts.  Bailey believes Second Life is all about art, “everything you see is texture…so everything has layers of artistic value.”  She believes Second Life is an extension of who one is in real life.

In Second Life all genres and styles seem to be as popular as the next.  Nikolaidis feels Second Life is so diverse that there are no real trends.  For the most part, in-world citizens are intrigued by items created to replicate real life; the more lifelike an item the likelihood it will be desired.  The benefit of Second Life is that anyone may learn to create and build, and artists like Nikolaidis and Bailey have found the art community to be generous and supportive.  Art is able to be personal and self motivated, without concerns of real life funding as a serious hindrance or influence.

“All those who remember the war
they won’t forget what they have seen.
Destruction – of men in their prime
Whose average age was 19”

Some of us may remember this song, it was a big hit in the 1980’s and it was about the Vietnam War.

Even more of us remember the war itself, the sacrifices and the victims.

To make sure that we never forget their names and what they did for us, in 1982 The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Inc. dedicated a monument that will keep their names forever present in our memories: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The memorial consists of 2 walls, each 246.75 feet long, composed of 70 separate inscribed granite panels, plus 4 at the end without names, of a flagpole and of a statue named „Three Servicemen“.
