Philip Rosedale was recently interviewed in England and tells the reporter that Second Life is now bigger than London! It has 18,000 servers and could cater for 1 million concurrent users if it wasn't for those bottlenecks, which he means - databases! This is an interesting interview to understand the direction Linden Labs is heading and how that may affect us all. Link to Story. There has been some other main stream reporting with Business Week taking a look at the marketing potential within Second Life, the shift from just a game to a business solution keeps chugging along slowly. Link to Story.
I wonder if any of the SL listed companies will attempt to position itself to gain a slice of RL ventures or will it just remain a game?

Greetings Everyone, I would like to take a moment explain to exchange officials, CEOs, and regular investors our financial reporting process. Aside from regular columns by esteemed columnists Guardian Market and Maelstrom Baphomet, the majority of day-to-day reporting at SLReports.net is done in the mornings when I wake up - between 6:00am and 10:00am CST... the time of day when I am most free. I do realize that from time to time I miss things. I miss important announcements from your exchange, from your company, and even (although infrequently thank goodness) miss important financial dramas that affect all of our Lindens.

As other news organizations slash budgets and scale back bureaus, CNN is expanding—just not in real life. The news giant is set to open a news-gathering outpost in Second Life next week. And unlike news service Reuters, which embedded a real reporter in the online virtual world last year, CNN will rely on Second Life "residents" to do all the legwork. In the space, the cable network will create a variation of its i-Reports, the real-world vehicle through which average citizens contribute eyewitness reports. CNN will equip Second Life denizens with kits enabling them to transmit copy and photos. Visitors to Second Life will be able to get the latest news via kiosks scattered throughout the virtual community landscape.
CNN joins Reuters and BBC, the other news organizations to establish an outpost in Second Life, which boasts 10.3 million residents and a functioning economy, complete with its own stock exchange. Like brands in Second Life, CNN will face homegrown competition. Second Life has several digital newspapers published by residents, such as Metaverse Messenger and Second Life Herald.
